It's easier than you think to fit a new car number plate yourself.
For whatever reason you want to change your registration plate, whether your current one has been stolen or you want to swap it for a private number plate, you needn't pay someone else to do it.
Read on to find out the easiest way to fit a new car number plate yourself without screws or visiting a garage.
1. Remove your current number plate
Start by removing the plastic screw covers, if there are any. Next, simply unscrew the number plate and be aware that you may find adhesive pads underneath the plate, which you will need to loosen and remove.
2. Decide what you're going to use
Once you've removed the old number plate, you'll need to decide whether you're going to use screws or an adhesive tape to fit your new registration plate.
By far the easiest way to fix a new number plate to your car is with VELCRO® Brand Heavy Duty Tape. It's quick and easy to apply, and is extremely strong and durable.
3. Secure your new number plate
To apply VELCRO® Brand Heavy Duty Tape to your number plate, start making sure that both surfaces (the back of the plate and your car) are clean and dry. Removing any debris will improve the effectiveness of the adhesive tape.
Next, remove the tape from its packaging and cut two long strips of hook and loop that are the same length as the number plate.
Stick one strip to the back of the number plate and the other to your car, and press down firmly. Do remember that due to the strength of the adhesive, the tape is not adjustable once it has been stuck down.
Finally, stick the number plate to the car and press down firmly for at least 30 seconds to ensure a secure hold.
