It’s the festive season and almost time to do a present swap! If you enjoy crafts and want to make your gifts look even more Christmassy then this is the place to be!
Create this cute Rudolph wine bottle cover using material from around your house! Old jumpers, scarfs and bedsheets are perfect when it comes to crafting and homemade gifts. This bottle cover can even be used as an adorable Christmas table decoration!
First things first, get everything that you need out in front of you including your free printable and VELCRO® Brand Stick on for Fabrics Tape and Ovals. It’s completely up to you what material you use for this craft; you may already have everything you need. We chose some hessian material, an old brown jumper and a red pillow case making this a great craft to do on a budget!
We’re going to start by making our hessian wrap which will go all the way around the bottle. As bottles come in all shapes and sizes you’ll need to figure out how much material you’ll need to do this. This can easily be done with a piece of string (if you don’t have any string handy then you can just use the material, which is what we did)!
You should wrap the end of the string around the bottle so that you can see where the end of the string meets itself. Then measure how much string was needed and add an extra 5cm on (the material must have extra length for the wrap to close), this will be the width of the material you’ll need. For the height, simply measure your wine bottle and see how much of it you want wrapping.
Then we’re going to use our VELCRO® Brand Stick on for Fabrics Tape to create a clasp at the back of our bottle wrap.
Take the tape and measure how much you need using your cut material. For the best results, leave a small gap around 1 cm from the top, bottom and side of the material as shown below. Once you have the right length, make sure you cut the same amount of tape both the hook (the rough side) and the loop (the soft side) so they can stick together well. Then stick the hook tape in place on your material and stick the loop tape to the hook.
Then remove the liner of the loop tape (that’s on top) and simply roll your bottle, wrapped in the material around onto the adhesive.
Then carefully pull the hook and loop apart, you’ll need to give the VELCRO® Brand Stick on for Fabrics Tape 24 hours for the adhesive to stick to the material properly.
Now we’ll move on to the antlers. We chose to use an old brown jumper for the antlers which gives the Christmas bottle wrap an extra homemade feel! To create your antlers, cut out your antler template from the free printable and use this as a guide when cutting your material.
Once you’re happy with your antlers you can use your VELCRO® Brand Stick on for Fabrics Tape to stick them in place. We chose to let the antlers stick up above the wrap so they can flop down and give Rudolph a little more character.
Next is the most important bit - Rudolph’s red nose! You’ll see that Rudolf’s nose is made up on 2 circles on the printable – start by cutting around the large circle as this is how much material you’ll need.
Once you’ve cut your material, then cut the nose template down to the smaller circle. You can then easily fold the red material inwards around the template and stick it in place with VELCRO® Brand Stick on for Fabrics Ovals.
Make sure that when using the ovals, you only use the loop side (soft side) on the back of the nose. Once you’re happy with his nose, you can then stick a hook oval (rough side) to the wrap and the loop ovals will hold it in place!
By now your Rudolph should be looking very festive! To add one final touch, get some of those VELCRO® Brand Stick on for Fabrics Ovals again and stick 2 of these on for eyes! It’s nice to again use the loop ovals as they’re nice and soft!
And that’s it. You now have a cute Rudolph wine bottle wrap to gift at Christmas!
Merry Christmas and Happy Crafting!
