Race to the Moon Timeline - Classroom Activity Idea

20th July 2019 is 50th anniversary of the moon landing - one of the most important dates in human space exploration. And no doubt it'll be on your science syllabus this year!

So if you're looking for a fun lesson idea to teach kids about the moon landing, here's an interactive classroom activity idea that will help you teach children about the fascinating race to the moon that took place throughout the 1950s and 60s.

What you need

What to do

Start by downloading and printing our free 'Race to the Moon' printables and mount them onto thin card to make them more sturdy.

Stick your background on the wall with VELCRO® Brand HANGables® Picture Hanging Squares  (that peel off cleanly without leaving any marks when it's time to take down the display).

Then stick the soft side of a VELCRO® Brand Stick On Coin (the loop side) to the back of each date and event.

And stick the corresponding scratchy side of the VELCRO® Brand Stick On Coin (the hook side) in position on the background.

This classroom science activity is super quick and easy to set up - that's all it takes to get your race to the moon timeline ready for your students to put the events that led up to the moon landing in the correct order!

Your pupils can have a go at this activity individually or in teams - it's up to you! And when the lesson's over, you can keep it on the wall for another class to use or as an educational space-themed classroom display idea.
